IWAN Content Detail

Cisco IWAN – Application Optimization v2.1

Part of the Cisco Intelligent WAN solution, Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) is a comprehensive, cost-effective, cloud-ready WAN optimization solution which accelerates applications, optimizes bandwidth, provides local hosting of branch IT services, and enables cloud services, all with comprehensive network integration options.

Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN®) with Akamai Connect is a fully integrated solution from Cisco and Akamai that provides the next generation application and network optimization. It integrates the best-in-class advanced WAN optimization and intelligent caching techniques directly into the Cisco Integrated Services Routers with Application Experience (ISR-AX) at the branch office. It effectively extends the Akamai Intelligent Platform across the last mile from the Internet directly into the branch office with edge caching, thus significantly offloading traffic from the WAN and providing an unparalleled user experience over bandwidth-constrained networks.

Cisco IWAN – Secure Connectivity v1

Cisco Intelligent WAN: Secure Connectivity v1 focuses on Cisco’s Cloud Web Security (CWS) to filter HTTP and HTTPS traffic for your branch offices. Scenarios demonstrated will compare and contrast the user’s experience of browsing the web with NT LAN Manager (NTLM) enabled as well as disabled. This content also explores the ScanCenter website to view available reports and management features related to the users and traffic coming from the branch office(s).

Cisco IWAN – Transport Independent and Intelligent Path Control v1.1

The Transport Independent and Intelligent Path Control features of Cisco IWAN utilize DMVPN/IPsec and Performance Routing (PfR v3) overlay designs to provide flexible and scalable modular design. This design supports application policy-based path selection based on delay, loss, jitter, and path preference, with load balancing for full utilization of all bandwidth. Combined, these features result in improved network availability.

Key features of Intelligent Path Control with PfR v3:

  • PfR monitors network performance and routes applications based on application performance policies
  • PfR load balances traffic based upon link utilization levels to efficiently utilize all available WAN bandwidth
  • Maximize link utilization
  • Utilize, rather than reserve, protection bandwidth
  • QoS to ensure priority traffic is delivered during an outage

Cisco IWAN 4D Bring Your Own Branch Proof of Value v1

This BYOB PoV lab highlights the overall topology of the IWAN solution. Upon completion of this topology lab you will have a thorough understanding of IWAN.

The BYOB lab topology is nearly an identical topology to the dCloud IWAN 4D Lab. The BYOB lab topology:

  • Converts the segment between the HQ-DC Core Switch and the routers aggregating WAN connectivity from point-to-point links to a shared segment.
  • Adds two additional CSR1000v DMVPN/PfRv3 Hub Routers (HW-EXT1 and HW-EXT2) to accommodate external real hardware connectivity into the BYOB Lab.
  • Configures additional servers to accommodate more than just IWAN based use cases.

Cisco IWAN 4D Deploying for Impact – Dual MPLS to Hybrid Migration Sandbox v1

The Cisco IWAN 4D Deploying for Impact – Dual MPLS to Hybrid Migration Sandbox is a fully functioning IWAN 2.x migration lab that includes real end-user traffic.  It can be used to create proofs of concept for your customers as well as your own learning and mastery of IWAN migration.

This lab is a single data center that uses the Cisco preferred IBlock method of connecting customers to their branches in a minimally impactful way.  There are three branches.  Branch 1 is set up with two branch routers and branches 2 and 3 use single branch routers.  The LAN is running EIGRP and the WAN is running BGP. This lab has real traffic!  Branches 1 and 2 can generate RTP (voice), business critical, FTP, and Internet traffic.  For Internet traffic, you can generate recreational traffic using sites such as Neflix.com as well as cloud-based business critical traffic using sites such as Salesforce.com.

This lab also includes application auditing and monitoring applications that you can use, including Cisco Prime Infrastructure and LiveAction LiveNX. Although these are not part of the IWAN Migration course, they are provided for you to use for informal practice and customer proof of concept efforts.
