Cisco San Analytics using Cisco MDS 9000 Series Switches

Date
June 2021

The Data Center Practice is pleased to announce that Cisco SAN Analytics using Cisco MDS 9000 Series Switches is available on dCloud to Partners and Cisco users in ALL dCloud locations.

The Cisco SAN Analytics solution offers end-to-end visibility into Fibre Channel block storage traffic. The solution is natively available on the storage area network due to its integrated-by-design architecture with the Cisco MDS 9000 switching family using 32G FC platform. Cisco SAN Analytics delivers deep visibility into I/O traffic between the compute and the storage infrastructure, running down up to LUN level. This information is in addition to the already-available visibility obtained from individual ports, switches, servers, virtual machines, and storage arrays.

This demo provides the opportunity to see how Cisco SAN Analytics is integrated by design into the SAN between the compute and the storage layers. This is made possible by recent innovations in the 32G FC family of Cisco MDS 9000 switching family. We can look at multiple metrics at different level to find out busiest host or storage port, Exchange Completion Time (ECT), performance or bandwidth consumption, Number of IOPs, and much more by doing metric calculation for every flow.

Components

  • Cisco Data Center Network Manager 11.4(1) release
  • Cisco MDS 9148T 32-Gbps Fibre Channel Switch, running NX-OS 8.4.(2b) release
  • Storage controller (Target)
  • Servers (Initiators)
  • Traffic Generator (Initiator / Target using SCSI / NVMe flows)
